To be honored at this year’s Pasco Invite is one of the greatest honors of my professional life—and one of the most personal.

Pasco School District is where I became the person I am today. It’s where I found my voice as an educator, where I discovered that leadership is rooted in service, and where I’ve been privileged to stand beside staff empowering students as they chase dreams, overcome obstacles, and grow into the people they were always meant to be.

I come from a complicated family system. My story includes the kinds of early experiences that often carry labels like “at-risk” or “hard to teach.” But, I also come from a family that dreamed big dreams for me—and from communities of educators who saw beyond the surface. Strangers became mentors. Classrooms became safe havens. And slowly, I came to believe I was capable of more than I ever imagined.

That is the power of public education. That is the power of people who care. That same power is alive every time a student pulls on their jersey, takes the field, steps onto a stage, or finds their place in a club, a team, or an activity. These opportunities give our students a reason to belong, a way to build confidence, and a place to shine. These aren’t just extracurriculars—they are lifelines. They are launching pads.

The Pasco Invite represents everything that’s right about education and community. It is built on countless hours of effort from coaches, staff, volunteers, families, and—most of all—students who show up with grit, heart, and pride. It is one of the many reasons I believe so fiercely in what we do here in Pasco.

When I was a little girl trying to imagine a life different from the one I knew, I couldn’t have pictured this moment. But, I promised myself then that if I was ever in a position to lift others, I would. I promised I would invest in people the way others once invested in me.

So, while this dedication bears my name, it belongs to all of you—to every adult who believes in a student before they believe in themselves. To every young person who dares to dream bigger than their circumstances. To every family who cheers from the sidelines.

Thank you for allowing me to serve a community that believes in kids. That believes in hope. And that believes, no matter what, in the power of possibility.
