To be honored at this year&rsquo;s Pasco Invite is one of the&nbsp;greatest honors of my professional life&mdash;and one of the most&nbsp;personal.
Pasco School District is where I became the person I am&nbsp;today. It&rsquo;s where I found my voice as an educator, where I&nbsp;discovered that leadership is rooted in service, and where&nbsp;I&rsquo;ve been privileged to stand beside staff empowering&nbsp;students as they chase dreams, overcome obstacles, and&nbsp;grow into the people they were always meant to be.
I come from a complicated family system. My story includes&nbsp;the kinds of early experiences that often carry labels like&nbsp;&ldquo;at-risk&rdquo; or &ldquo;hard to teach.&rdquo; But, I also come from a family&nbsp;that dreamed big dreams for me&mdash;and from communities of&nbsp;educators who saw beyond the surface. Strangers became&nbsp;mentors. Classrooms became safe havens. And slowly, I&nbsp;came to believe I was capable of more than I ever imagined.
That is the power of public education. That is the power&nbsp;of people who care. That same power is alive every time&nbsp;a student pulls on their jersey, takes the field, steps onto a&nbsp;stage, or finds their place in a club, a team, or an activity.&nbsp;These opportunities give our students a reason to belong, a&nbsp;way to build confidence, and a place to shine. These aren&rsquo;t&nbsp;just extracurriculars&mdash;they are lifelines. They are launching&nbsp;pads.
The Pasco Invite represents everything that&rsquo;s right about&nbsp;education and community. It is built on countless hours of&nbsp;effort from coaches, staff, volunteers, families, and&mdash;most&nbsp;of all&mdash;students who show up with grit, heart, and pride. It is&nbsp;one of the many reasons I believe so fiercely in what we do&nbsp;here in Pasco.
When I was a little girl trying to imagine a life different from&nbsp;the one I knew, I couldn&rsquo;t have pictured this moment. But,&nbsp;I promised myself then that if I was ever in a position to lift&nbsp;others, I would. I promised I would invest in people the way&nbsp;others once invested in me.&nbsp;
So, while this dedication bears my name, it belongs to all of&nbsp;you&mdash;to every adult who believes in a student before they&nbsp;believe in themselves. To every young person who dares to&nbsp;dream bigger than their circumstances. To every family who&nbsp;cheers from the sidelines.
Thank you for allowing me to serve a community that&nbsp;believes in kids. That believes in hope. And that believes, no&nbsp;matter what, in the power of possibility.
